Certification of Quality ISO 9001:2000 Rangel Expresso/FedEx

Celebration of 25 years of the group “25 Years On The Move”. From four members of staff in 1980 the group has grown to approximately 700 employees.

2004
The group initiates Certification of Quality Management Systems ISO 9001:2000.                                            
Rangel Transitários S.A. is the first company in the group to obtain certification.

2003
The group opts for a single brand name. So the group decides to refresh its image, its logo. The Roquette brand is absorbed by Rangel Internacional Aérea e Marítima, SA.

Inauguration of the new Logistics Centre in Lisbon, in Montijo (15,000 m2+9,000m2).

FedEx renews their contract with Rangel Expresso until 2010.

2001
Lear Project (5000 m2) – Calsina Carré & Rangel Logística is created.

2000
The group defines a strategic plan for the future: consolidate an integrated logistics group, with each company becoming an autonomous entity with collective management. The management is common to all the companies, as are the business support organs.

Eduardo Rangel, Lda changes its social denomination to Rangel Invest, SA, becoming the Holding Company of the group.

Expansion of the Logistics Centre in Lisbon (+5000m2)

Acquisition of an internet provider company – Zipnet.

1999
In 1999 the opportunity comes up to work with FedEx, an American company which is the world’s leader in the Express courier service.  Already operating in several European countries, in Portugal FedEx decides to nominate a partner, selecting Rangel for this purpose, and giving the group GSP (Global Service Participant) status. The group decides to create a new company, Rangel Expresso, concentrating its activity exclusively on urgent deliveries for FedEx.

In the same year the Rangel Group continues to expand and decides to invest in the purchase of Roquette, Agentes Transitários, S.A., a company belonging to the Tabaqueira group. With Roquette the Rangel group obtains a presence in Madeira and the Azores.

Continuing the strategy of national implantation, still in 1999 the group decides to open a branch in Covilhã. In this way the groups is now present in all of the main economic centres of the country.                                                                           

1998
Portugal is host to The World Exhibition – EXPO 98. The group bids and wins the tender to be Official Logistics Operator fro EXPO 98. Thanks to this experience and the success of the operation the group sets up the company Feirexpo, a logistics and transport company for fairs and exhibitions.

1995
The group grows year after year and the decision is made to build premises to concentrate all of the services and employees in one place.  In this year the group is transferred to Maia, the current headquarters, (6000m2), and in Lisbon it moves to Trajouce, in Cacém (10,000m2).

1993
After founding the forwarding agent, the group felt that a good distribution network was missing. A new concept of a group company with a new philosophy: provide integrated services. The group goes ahead with the distribution and logistics project. Rangel Distribuição e Logística is set up.

1991
Eduardo Rangel diversifies the business and creates air and maritime transport services.                                                                      
The group which had started in Porto starts to open premises all over the country.

In 1991 the group opens premises in Lisbon and Leiria, followed by a branch in Aveiro in 1992.

1990
The key moment of change occurred in 1990. The concept of the company evolved from being one person to being a group; a transition for the future with the inclusion of different services.

1988
In 1988 Eduardo Rangel participated in a conference in Brussels with the General Directors of Customs from all countries as well as the European Commission and representatives of the Business Associations.  He realized that 1992 was going to be a year of change because Northern and Central European countries were demanding free circulation of goods within a an area without borders. He quickly understood that diversification of his business would be crucial for success. He then created Rangel Transitários, dedicating it to European land transport. At this time he now had a staff of fifty.                                                                                                  

1987
Eduardo Rangel closely follows the computerisation of the Portuguese Customs, becoming the first forwarding agent to establish an x25 connection for transferring files between his office and Customs.                                                                                                            

1986
Eduardo Rangel publishes a book about the Single Market when everybody thinks that it was impossible, that it was fiction.

1983
After gaining his forwarding agent licence, Eduardo Rangel decides to create a new company; Eduardo Rangel Despachante Oficial, becoming dedicated to customs business.  

1980
In September 1980, Eduardo Rangel sets up his first company - Eduardo Rangel, Lda., relying on a team of only three people and 100 thousand escudos capital, on Rua da Restauração, nº 420, in the city of Porto.
